The rules

Short, because there is not much to it.

Nobody pays to be listed

A restaurant, bakery or shop gets a page because it serves halal food in a place people search for, and because the facts about it could be checked. Paying for a feature on Instagram does not buy a spot in the directory, a higher place in a guide, or a kinder write-up.

Sponsored work is labeled

When Abe is paid to visit or to post, the video says so and any page here that comes out of it says so too. Links that earn a commission are marked as such. That money never changes which places are listed or what is said about them.

Halal status is reported, not certified

We say what a business or its certifier states publicly, and when we last checked. We do not inspect kitchens or test food. Suppliers change, franchises differ, and menus get updated, so if halal matters to you, ask the staff before you order. Where a business serves alcohol or a mixed menu, the page says so.

Facts have sources

Every place page and every brand check lists the pages the facts came from. Opinions are Abe's and are written as opinions. Numbers that cannot be sourced do not appear.

Photos show the dish, not the restaurant

Some food photos on guides and articles may be styled images made for this site, rather than photos of a specific restaurant's plate. That is why place pages do not carry them.

Dates are visible

Guides and brand checks carry the date they were last reviewed. An old date means exactly what you think it means.

Mistakes get fixed fast

Closed restaurant, wrong address, changed supplier, a halal claim that no longer holds: email abe@halalfoodjunkie.com with the link. Corrections are made on the page, not buried.

Businesses can respond

Own a place listed here and disagree with something? Same email. Abe reads it himself. A fair correction gets published; a request to remove an unflattering fact that is true does not.
