Is Fogo de Chao halal?

Some items or locations

Partly. Fogo de Chao's FAQ says its lamb and its Wagyu are halal, with lamb chops normally marinated in white wine. The other meats are not described as halal.

The longer answer

Fogo de Chao answers the question directly in its FAQ (checked October 2026): "Select items may be suitable for Guests seeking halal options." It says its lamb "is sourced from New Zealand and Australia and is halal; our Wagyu is also halal and sourced from Australia."

The same answer adds a caution: "lamb chops are typically prepared with a white wine marinade, though you may request lamb chops without that marinade." The company names no halal certifier, and it makes no halal statement about its other beef cuts, chicken or sausage. Pork is also served: the FAQ mentions Bisteca de Porco and Linguica among the fire-roasted cuts, and says the farofa on the Feijoada Bar is made with bacon. The FAQ does not say whether the halal items are cooked or carved separately from the other meats.

Zabihah.com, a community halal directory, carries a similar note attributed to management for its Fogo de Chao listings and classes the restaurants as partially halal with alcohol served. That is a community listing, not a certification.

What to check before you order

Ask the manager which cuts are halal that day, ask for lamb chops without the white wine marinade, and ask whether the lamb and Wagyu share skewers, grills or carving knives with pork and the other meats.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
