Is Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken halal?
Most locations, but not all. Hangry Joe's says most of its restaurants are halal-certified, some are not, and at some stores the wings may not be halal.
The longer answer
The FAQ on Hangry Joe's website (checked October 2026) says: "Yes, most Hangry Joe's are HALAL-certified but some may not be due to current supply chains!" It adds that a certification should be posted in the store, and gives an example: "Some store's Breasts, Tenders, and Nuggets are HALAL however the wings may not be HALAL because they are locally sourced." It tells customers to check with a manager before ordering.
The FAQ links to a certificate from Halal Food Council U.S.A. titled "Certificate of Mechanical Halal Slaughter" for Mountaire Farms halal poultry parts from four USDA plants. The certificate describes a Muslim slaughterman reciting the blessing before switching on a mechanical knife. It states that it applies only to the raw slaughtered products and not to further processing or a restaurant. The copy posted on the site was valid from February 12, 2025 to February 11, 2026, so it had expired when we checked.
A Zabihah community listing for the Lorton, Virginia location repeats the management statement and marks that store fully halal with no alcohol. The same FAQ says the chicken is fried in 100% soybean oil.
What to check before you order
Ask the manager whether that store's chicken is halal, including the wings, and ask to see a current certificate. The chicken is machine slaughtered according to the certificate the company posts, which matters to some readers.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
