Is KFC halal?

No halal claim

KFC makes no halal claim in the US, and it has enforced a policy barring US franchisees from advertising religious claims such as halal.

The longer answer

KFC's US FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal.

In 2017 an Illinois franchisee who had sold halal chicken at Chicago-area KFC restaurants sued KFC Corporation, saying the company was enforcing a policy that prohibits franchisees from making religious claims about its food, as reported by Courthouse News Service. That means a US KFC is not permitted by the brand to market itself as halal, whatever its supplier.

Other markets differ: KFC UK says around 200 of its roughly 1,000 UK and Ireland restaurants serve halal food, accredited and audited by the Halal Food Authority. That does not apply to US restaurants.

What to check before you order

In the US, assume KFC chicken is not halal unless a specific restaurant can show you a current halal certificate from its chicken supplier. In the UK, use KFC's own halal restaurant finder.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
