Is Sonic Drive-In halal?
Sonic makes no halal claim as a chain, but one franchise in Dearborn, Michigan has been reported as serving halal-certified items.
The longer answer
Sonic's official FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal. WDIV and Eater Detroit reported in April 2018 that the franchise at 10403 Ford Road in Dearborn went through halal certification and cooks halal items on a separate grill; owner Tom Fakih called it the first Sonic in the country to offer halal. The reports do not name the certifying body. HMMI, a Michigan listing group that is not a certifier, recorded in December 2023 that the location's beef was hand-slaughtered and its chicken tenders came from a machine-slaughter supplier. Halal Monitoring Services' guide (updated September 2026) says HMS has not inspected or certified Sonic and lists its status as not verified. Every other Sonic should be treated as making no halal claim.
What to check before you order
At the Dearborn location, ask which items are halal that day and ask to see the current supplier certificate. Elsewhere there is nothing to check.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
