Is 5-hour Energy halal?

No halal claim

5-hour Energy makes no halal claim. The company says the shots are kosher certified by Star-K and that no animal products are added to them.

The longer answer

The 5-hour Energy FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal. It does answer the kosher question: "Yes. 5-hour ENERGY received its kosher certification from Star-K in November 2010." Kosher certification is not halal certification, but it is the only religious dietary statement the company makes.

The company's Nutrition and Ingredients page says: "No animal products are added to 5-hour ENERGY shots." The same page names the vitamins (B6, B12, niacin) and the energy blend: citicoline, tyrosine, phenylalanine, taurine, malic acid, glucuronolactone and caffeine.

On taurine, the page describes it generally as a substance "present in meat, fish and dairy products" and does not state the source of the taurine used in the shots, beyond the statement that no animal products are added. We found no halal certification.

What to check before you order

There is no halal logo on the bottle. The label lists the full ingredients, including the flavorings and preservatives that the website does not spell out, so read it for the flavor you are buying.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
