Is Bundaberg halal?

Some items or locations

Some Bundaberg drinks are halal certified by ICCV, but its own chart marks Ginger Beer and Root Beer as not certified. The brews are fermented, with under 0.5% residual alcohol.

The longer answer

Bundaberg's US FAQ (checked October 2026) says: "In late 2024, many Bundaberg Brewed Drinks beverages around the world achieved Halal certification from the internationally recognised Islamic Co-ordinating Council of Victoria (ICCV)." It adds that no recipes were changed and that some brews are being renamed in some countries as the ICCV logo is added to packs.

The chart published with that answer marks these as halal certified: Ginger Sparkling Drink, Blood Orange Sparkling Drink, Brewed Lemonade (Europe), Brewed Sparkling Lemonade (USA), Burgundee Creaming Soda, Lemon Lime and Bitters, Diet Lemon Lime and Bitters, Sarsaparilla, Diet Sarsaparilla, Traditional Lemonade, and the Guava, Passionfruit, Peach, Pineapple and Coconut, Pink Grapefruit and Tropical Mango sparkling drinks. It marks these as not certified: Ginger Beer, Diet Ginger Beer, Light Ginger Beer, Root Beer and three brews sold in Germany.

On alcohol, the same FAQ says: "All Bundaberg Brewed Drinks naturally brewed products contain minute residual traces of alcohol." It explains that yeast ferments the brew, which is then heated above 70 degrees C to stop fermentation and remove alcohol, and that "all of our products have a residual alcohol level of less than 0.5%."

What to check before you order

Look for the ICCV logo on the bottle and check the exact product name. A bottle labeled Ginger Beer is listed by Bundaberg as not certified, while one labeled Ginger Sparkling Drink is.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
