Is GT's Kombucha halal?
GT's makes no halal claim, and says its kombucha contains naturally occurring alcohol from fermentation; its Classic line is sold only to adults 21 and over.
The longer answer
Kombucha is fermented tea, and the question for Muslim shoppers is the alcohol the fermentation produces. GT's Classic Kombucha pages (checked October 2026) say the 45-day fermentation "results in a naturally-occurring very small amount of alcohol byproduct" and that buyers must be 21 or older. GT's own FAQ page on alcohol, which now redirects and was read in an archived 2022 copy, said alcohol is a natural byproduct found in all fermented foods, that Classic develops 0.5 to 1% alcohol by volume, and that people with a sensitivity to alcohol "for personal, religious, or dietetic reasons" are advised to abstain from kombucha. The Synergy line is described as fermented for 30 days and is sold without an age limit; we did not find a stated alcohol figure for it on the pages we read. No GT's page we read mentions halal, and we found no halal certifier.
What to check before you order
Check which line you are holding: Classic is labeled 21+ because of its alcohol content. No GT's bottle carries a halal mark, and we found no published alcohol figure for Synergy.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
