Is Cadbury halal?
Cadbury sold in the US is a Hershey product with no halal claim. In the UK, Cadbury's owner says most of the range is suitable for a halal diet but is not halal certified.
The longer answer
Cadbury in the United States is sold by The Hershey Company and appears on Hershey's own product site. Hershey lists the Cadbury Dairy Milk bar's ingredients (checked October 2026) as milk chocolate (sugar, milk, cocoa butter, chocolate, lactose, soy lecithin, PGPR, natural and artificial flavor) and marks it OU-D kosher. No gelatin or alcohol is listed. Hershey's FAQ points to lists of kosher and vegan products but has no entry about halal.
UK Cadbury is a separate business owned by Mondelez International. A Mondelez spokesperson told the fact checker Full Fact in April 2025: "Most of the Cadbury range is suitable for those following a Halal diet. However, it is not Halal certified." Full Fact reported the company's reasoning that the only animal products in most of the range are milk and eggs. The Cadbury UK FAQ itself does not mention halal. That statement is about the UK range, not the US bars sold by Hershey.
Cadbury is a range, not one product. Filled eggs, caramel bars and marshmallow or nougat varieties have different ingredient lists from the plain Dairy Milk bar.
What to check before you order
Check whether your pack is the US Hershey version or an import, since they are different products. Read the ingredients on the exact item, particularly anything with marshmallow, nougat or a soft filling.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
