Is Cheez-It halal?

No halal claim

Cheez-It makes no halal claim; its US FAQ confirms real dairy cheese but does not say where the cheese enzymes come from.

The longer answer

The Cheez-It US FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal, kosher, rennet or enzyme sources. It says one of the primary ingredients is 100% real dairy cheese, that the crackers are therefore not vegan, and it points shoppers to the SmartLabel on each product page for current ingredients. Cheese is made with enzymes that can come from microbial or animal sources, and the FAQ does not state which are used. We found no US halal certifier for Cheez-It.

What to check before you order

The enzyme source is the open question. Check the product's SmartLabel ingredient list and ask Kellanova consumer affairs whether the cheese enzymes are microbial or animal.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
