Is Chex Mix halal?

No halal claim

Chex Mix has no halal claim on its site. Traditional lists no meat, gelatin or cheese, while Cheddar lists cheese made with enzymes of unstated source.

The longer answer

The Chex Mix website (checked October 2026) lists the ingredients of Chex Mix Traditional as corn meal, enriched flour, whole wheat, vegetable oil, rye flour, sugar and salt, plus small amounts of items such as yeast, spices, monosodium glutamate, yeast extract, barley malt syrup, distilled monoglycerides, hydrolyzed soy protein and natural flavor. No meat, gelatin, dairy or cheese is listed. The source of the monoglycerides is not stated.

Chex Mix Cheddar is different: it lists whey, sour cream and "Cheddar Cheese (milk, salt, cultures, enzymes, annatto [color])" along with natural and artificial flavor. The source of the cheese enzymes is not given.

Neither product page mentions halal, and we found no halal statement from General Mills for Chex Mix. Other flavors have their own recipes, so each needs its own check.

What to check before you order

Read the list on the exact flavor. Cheese flavors bring in enzymes of unstated source. Monoglycerides and natural flavor are not broken down on the label.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
