Is Doritos halal?
Doritos are not halal-certified: Frito-Lay says it has no halal-certified snacks in the US.
The longer answer
Frito-Lay, which makes Doritos, states: "Frito-Lay does not have any Halal certified snacks. However, our Kosher lists include products with no animal enzymes or animal flavors."
It also says many of the cheeses in its seasonings are made with animal enzymes, and suggests that people who want to avoid them steer clear of snacks listing "cheese" as an ingredient. Many Doritos flavors are cheese-seasoned.
Frito-Lay says the few snacks with animal flavors will show them on the ingredient statement rather than hiding them under "natural flavors."
What to check before you order
Check whether your exact flavor is on Frito-Lay's current US kosher lists (Orthodox Union or Triangle K), which the company says are free of animal enzymes and flavors. If it is not listed and contains cheese, assume animal enzymes.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
