Is Dots halal?
Dots gumdrops are set with modified food starch and list no gelatin on Tootsie's website, but the maker makes no halal claim.
The longer answer
Dots are made by Tootsie Roll Industries. The Original Dots page on Tootsie's website (checked October 2026) lists: corn syrup, sugar, food starch-modified, malic acid, natural and artificial flavors, sodium citrate, artificial colors (including Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1). No gelatin, carmine or confectioner's glaze is listed.
Sour Dots are similar, with citric acid and palm oil added, and also list no gelatin. The Original Dots page adds that egg, milk and soy may be present.
We found no halal statement or halal certification for Dots on Tootsie's site. Its Dots range page describes some varieties as kosher.
What to check before you order
Read the ingredient list on the box, since seasonal Dots varieties have their own recipes. Flavors are listed only as "natural and artificial flavors".
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
