Is Edy's / Dreyer's halal?
Edy's and Dreyer's make no halal claim. Their Rocky Road flavors list gelatin with no source stated, while the plain Vanilla we checked does not.
The longer answer
The Edy's and Dreyer's FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal, kosher or gelatin. Edy's is the name used in the eastern US and Dreyer's in the West and Texas; the FAQ explains that both names are used for the same line.
The SmartLabel ingredient pages linked from the brand's own product pages show gelatin in both Rocky Road varieties. Extra Rocky Road lists gelatin after modified corn starch and cream. Slow Churned Rocky Road lists miniature marshmallows made of corn syrup, sugar, modified corn starch and gelatin. The animal source of the gelatin is not stated.
Classics Vanilla lists skim milk, corn syrup, sugar, whey, coconut oil, cream, guar gum, monoglycerides, natural flavor, carob bean gum and annatto color, with no gelatin. The source of the monoglycerides is not stated. We found no halal certification claim.
What to check before you order
Avoid Rocky Road and any flavor listing gelatin or marshmallows unless a halal source is confirmed. On other flavors, monoglycerides and natural flavor are listed without a source.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
