Is Extra gum halal?
Extra gum lists no gelatin in the varieties we checked, but the gum base and glycerol sources are not stated and there is no halal claim.
The longer answer
The Extra website's page for Spearmint sugar free gum (checked October 2026) lists: sorbitol, gum base, glycerol, natural and artificial flavors, and less than 2% of hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, aspartame, mannitol, acesulfame K, soy lecithin, BHT and colors. Extra Refreshers Spearmint lists xylitol, gum base, flavors, mannitol, soy lecithin, acacia, sorbitol, sweeteners, BHT and color. Neither lists gelatin.
The labels do not say what the gum base contains or whether the glycerol is plant or animal derived. Extra's FAQ does not cover this. It says that any ingredient added as part of the recipe appears in the ingredient list on the packaging.
We found no halal statement or halal certification from Extra or its maker Mars Wrigley for the US products.
What to check before you order
Read the ingredient list on the pack for gelatin, as flavors differ. The source of the glycerol and gum base is not given on the label.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
