Is Häagen-Dazs halal?

No halal claim

Häagen-Dazs makes no halal claim in the US and says several of its ice creams contain alcohol at under 0.5% by volume.

The longer answer

The Häagen-Dazs US FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal. It says several of its ice cream products "contain alcohol, either as a key component of the flavor or as an agent to carry flavor" and that each contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume. It says US retail products are OU-D kosher and that eggs, milk and honey are the animal-derived ingredients it uses. It says its stabilizers are naturally occurring ones such as pasteurized eggs, pectin and citrus fiber, and it does not name gelatin. Kosher certification is a separate standard and is not a halal certification. We found no US halal certifier for Häagen-Dazs.

What to check before you order

Check the ingredient list of the flavor for rum, liqueur or other alcohol, and note that the brand says alcohol is also used to carry flavor in some products.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
