Is Haribo halal?

Some items or locations

Only some Haribo is halal: Haribo says products made in its Turkish factory are halal-certified, while its standard gummies are made primarily with pork gelatin.

The longer answer

Haribo's international FAQ says products from Haribo Turkey carry halal certification and are made at its factory in Hadımköy, Istanbul; it tells shoppers to look for "Made in Turkey" on the back of the pack. Haribo publishes a halal certificate for the Turkish operation.

The same FAQ says Haribo's gelatin-containing products sold in Germany are primarily made with pork skin gelatin, and that its halal products use beef gelatin.

Haribo's US FAQ says only that "HARIBO does offer a variety of Halal products" and directs shoppers to its Consumer Care team. It does not list which products sold in the US are halal, so a Haribo bag in a US store should not be assumed halal.

What to check before you order

Turn the bag over. Look for "Made in Turkey" and a halal mark; these are usually found at halal grocers and importers. Bags made in the US, Germany or elsewhere without a halal mark should be treated as containing non-halal gelatin.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
