Is Hostess (Twinkies) halal?

No halal claim

Hostess makes no halal claim, and its Twinkies ingredient list includes tallow and hydrogenated tallow.

The longer answer

The Hostess product page for Twinkies (checked October 2026) lists tallow and hydrogenated tallow among the ingredients, along with mono and diglycerides, enzymes and natural and artificial flavors. Tasting Table reported in April 2025, citing the Hostess site, that the tallow is beef fat. The page does not say the tallow comes from halal-slaughtered animals. The Hostess FAQ does not mention halal, and we found no halal certifier.

What to check before you order

Look for tallow on the ingredient list; it is in Twinkies per the brand's own page. Other Hostess cakes have their own lists.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
