Is Hot Tamales halal?
Hot Tamales list no gelatin, but maker Just Born says its candies are not halal certified, and the candy is finished with confectioners glaze.
The longer answer
Hot Tamales are made by Just Born, whose FAQ (checked October 2026) says: "While many of our candies are Kosher, they are not Halal certified."
The ingredient list on the Hot Tamales Fierce Cinnamon product page is sugar, corn syrup, modified food starch, artificial flavors, dextrin, confectioners glaze, medium chain triglycerides, carnauba wax, sodium citrate, pectin, citric acid, malic acid, fumaric acid and artificial colors (Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1). No gelatin and no carmine are listed.
Just Born's FAQ notes that its jelly bean and chewy candies, Hot Tamales included, contain confectioners glaze, "which may be of concern to some vegans". Confectioners glaze is commonly made from shellac, an insect resin, and Muslim opinion on it differs. The same FAQ says Hot Tamales are kosher and pareve under the Orthodox Union.
What to check before you order
Read the ingredient list on the pack for gelatin and confectioners glaze, since flavors can differ. The maker says the candy carries no halal certification.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
