Is Hudsonville Ice Cream halal?
Hudsonville makes no halal claim. Most flavors list no gelatin, but Dirtcake does, and a few list shellac, confectioner's glaze or alcohol in a flavoring.
The longer answer
The FAQ on Hudsonville's contact page (checked October 2026) does not mention halal. On kosher it says: "Our Kosher inspections and certification are through the Metropolitan Kashruth Council of Michigan and bear the Shield K Kosher symbol", and that the symbol appears near the barcode on kosher products.
We read the ingredient lists on 59 flavor pages on hudsonvilleicecream.com. Dirtcake lists gelatin, with no source stated. Cosmic Brownies Ice Cream Sandwiches list shellac, and Birthday Cake and Brownie Sundae list confectioner's glaze. Two lists name alcohol inside a flavoring: Strawberry Shortcake Rolls lists a "natural & artificial flavor" whose stated components begin with ethyl alcohol, and Peach Cobbler lists "natural peach flavor (glycerin, cane sugar alcohol, natural flavors)".
Creamery Blend Vanilla lists milk, cream, sugar, corn syrup, skim milk, whey, pure vanilla extract, mono and diglycerides, cellulose gum, annatto and guar gum. The source of the mono and diglycerides is not stated. Scholars differ on trace alcohol in flavorings and extracts; we report the label and leave the judgement to you.
What to check before you order
Read the ingredient list for the exact flavor. Look for gelatin, shellac or confectioner's glaze in candy and sprinkle flavors, and for alcohol named inside a flavoring.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
