Is Junior Mints halal?
Junior Mints make no halal claim. Tootsie's current ingredient list shows no gelatin, but it does include confectioner's glaze, and the pack is marked kosher OU-D.
The longer answer
Junior Mints are made by Tootsie Roll Industries. Tootsie's product page lists the ingredients (checked October 2026) as sugar, semi-sweet chocolate (sugar, chocolate processed with alkali, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, vanillin), corn syrup, confectioner's glaze, food starch-modified, peppermint oil and invertase (an enzyme). It adds that egg and milk may be present.
No gelatin or alcohol is on that list. Confectioner's glaze, also called shellac, comes from the lac insect, and scholars differ on it. The page does not describe the source of the invertase enzyme. The product is marked Kosher OU-D.
Tootsie's FAQ and contact page do not mention halal, and we found no halal certification claim for Junior Mints.
What to check before you order
Read the ingredient list on the box you are buying, since older stock and seasonal versions can differ, and look for confectioner's glaze if shellac matters to you.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
