Is Milk Duds halal?
Milk Duds make no halal claim. Hershey's ingredient list shows no gelatin, but it includes confectioner's glaze and mono- and diglycerides with no stated source.
The longer answer
Milk Duds are made by The Hershey Company. Hershey's product page lists the ingredients (checked October 2026) as corn syrup, sugar, vegetable oil (palm, shea, sunflower, palm kernel and/or safflower oil), dextrose, reduced protein whey, skim milk, brown sugar, and 2% or less of lactose, mono- and diglycerides, chocolate, confectioner's glaze, cocoa, cocoa processed with alkali, baking soda, salt, soy lecithin, vanillin and tapioca dextrin.
No gelatin or alcohol is listed. Two ingredients are worth knowing about. Confectioner's glaze, also called shellac, comes from the lac insect, and scholars differ on it. Mono- and diglycerides can come from plant or animal fat, and Hershey's page does not state the source. The page shows an OU-D kosher dairy mark.
Hershey's FAQ has no entry about halal, and we found no halal certification claim for Milk Duds.
What to check before you order
Check the box for confectioner's glaze and mono- and diglycerides. If the source of the mono- and diglycerides matters to you, ask Hershey consumer relations.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
