Is Oreo halal?
Oreo makes no halal claim in the US; its maker says halal offerings are decided market by market.
The longer answer
Oreo's US FAQ (checked October 2026) does not mention halal.
Mondelēz International, which makes Oreo, has a published position on halal. It says the company considers religious requirements such as halal when deciding what to offer in a specific market, that halal certification is managed through external agencies whose requirements vary by country, and that "the best thing for consumers to do is to check the ingredients and the label."
Several websites quote an Oreo social-media reply saying Oreo cookies in the US and Canada are not halal-certified. We could not retrieve the original post, but it is consistent with the absence of any halal mark on US packs. Third-party sites also say Oreos in some other countries carry local halal certification; we did not verify that here.
What to check before you order
Look for a halal mark on the pack; US packs do not have one. Read the ingredient list on the specific variety, since limited editions and coated or filled versions differ from the classic cookie.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
