Is Pirate's Booty halal?

No halal claim

Pirate's Booty makes no halal claim. Its maker says all the snacks are OU kosher certified, and the cheddar cheese lists enzymes without stating their source.

The longer answer

Pirate's Booty is made by The Hershey Salty Snacks Company. The brand FAQ on Hershey's site (checked October 2026) says: "All of PIRATE'S BOOTY Snacks are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union (OU)." It also says the snacks contain milk and are not vegan. It says nothing about halal.

The official ingredient list for Aged White Cheddar Blast is cornmeal, canola oil, rice flour, cheddar cheese (milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes), whey, buttermilk, salt, natural flavor, lactic acid, citric acid and black pepper. The page shows an OU-D mark. The source of the cheese enzymes is not stated.

We found no halal certification or halal statement for Pirate's Booty.

What to check before you order

The open question is the enzymes in the cheddar. The pack carries an OU-D kosher mark but no halal mark. If the enzyme source matters to you, ask Hershey consumer relations.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
