Is Pop-Tarts halal?

No halal claim

Pop-Tarts carry no halal certification, and frosted varieties list gelatin as an ingredient.

The longer answer

Official ingredient lists for frosted Pop-Tarts, such as Frosted Cinnamon Roll and Frosted S'mores, include gelatin. The product pages list allergens but show no halal certification.

The ingredient lists do not say which animal the gelatin comes from. Kellogg's used to have a web page titled "What kind of gelatin do you use in Pop-Tarts?", but it no longer shows an answer, and we could not retrieve an archived copy. Many websites say the gelatin is beef-derived; we could not confirm that with the maker, and uncertified beef gelatin would still not be halal-certified.

Some unfrosted varieties are reported to be gelatin-free; confirm on the box.

What to check before you order

Read the ingredient list on the box for gelatin. Treat any variety listing gelatin as not halal unless the maker confirms a halal source. Check unfrosted varieties individually.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
