Is Rice Krispies Treats halal?

No

Kellogg's has stated that beef or pork gelatin may be used in all varieties of Rice Krispies Treats bars sold in the US.

The longer answer

A Kellogg's letter to US foodservice customers dated January 4, 2023 states: "Beef or pork gelatin may be used in all varieties of Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats bars, including Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats made with Whole Grain bars." We read the copy of that letter hosted by a school district (checked October 2026). The Kellanova SmartLabel page for Rice Krispies Treats Original Bars lists gelatin without naming the source. The label does not tell a shopper which gelatin is in a given bar. We found no halal statement or certifier for the product.

What to check before you order

Gelatin is on the ingredient line and the maker says it may be pork. Ask Kellanova for a current statement if you need one, as the letter says information can change.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
