Is Smarties halal?
US Smarties candy rolls are stated by the maker to be vegan with no animal products, but the company makes no halal claim on its website.
The longer answer
Smarties Candy Company's FAQ (checked October 2026) says: "All Smarties products are vegetarian and vegan." Its candy page adds that Smarties "ingredients contain no animal products".
The FAQ gives the ingredients of the original roll as dextrose, citric acid, calcium stearate, natural and artificial flavor and colors (Red 40 Lake, Yellow 5 Lake, Yellow 6 Lake, Blue 2 Lake). No gelatin is listed.
This is the American tablet candy, sold as Rockets in Canada. It is not the chocolate Smarties sold in other countries. The company also warns that some products carrying the Smarties name are not made by it, and says its own products have a UPC beginning 0 11206. We found no halal statement or halal certification on its site.
What to check before you order
Check that the pack is from Smarties Candy Company (UPC starting 0 11206), because other Smarties branded products are made by different companies with different ingredients.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
