Is SmartSweets halal?

No halal claim

SmartSweets says its Gummy Worms contain gelatin and everything else in the range is plant-based. The brand makes no halal claim.

The longer answer

The SmartSweets FAQ (checked October 2026) says: "Our Gummy Worms, Sour Gummy Worms, and Halloween Gummy Worms contain gelatin and are not plant-based. Everything else is plant-based (vegan friendly)!" It lists the plant-based products as including Sweet Fish, Sour Blast Buddies, Peach Rings, Sourmelon Bites, Tropical Sours, SweetChews, Cinnamon Bears, Red Twists, Lollipops and Fruit Flavored Snacks.

The FAQ does not say what animal the gelatin in the worms comes from.

On certification, it says most SmartSweets are not certified kosher and that Sweet Fish is the only kosher certified flavor. We found no halal statement or halal certification in the FAQ or on the ingredients page.

What to check before you order

Avoid the Gummy Worms varieties unless the gelatin source is confirmed. For the rest, check the pack for gelatin, as recipes change over time.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
