Is Wheat Thins halal?
Wheat Thins are not sold with a halal claim in the US. Original lists only plant ingredients, while the Ranch flavor adds cheddar cheese made with enzymes of unstated source.
The longer answer
The ingredient list on Mondelez's Snackworks site for Wheat Thins Original (checked October 2026) is whole grain wheat flour, canola oil, sugar, cornstarch, malt syrup (from corn and barley), salt, refiner's syrup and leavening. No animal ingredient is listed.
Flavored varieties differ. Wheat Thins Ranch lists buttermilk and "Cheddar Cheese Powder (milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes)" plus natural flavor. The enzyme source is not stated. Sundried Tomato and Basil lists no dairy but does list natural flavor.
Mondelez's corporate halal page says it considers religious requirements such as halal when deciding what to sell in each market, that halal certification is handled through outside agencies, and that "the best thing for consumers to do is to check the ingredients and the label". We found no halal certification for Wheat Thins in the US.
What to check before you order
Original is the simplest recipe. On flavored boxes look for cheese powder and enzymes. Natural flavor is not broken down on the label.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
