Is BelGioioso halal?
BelGioioso makes no halal claim. It lists which of its cheeses use non-animal rennet, such as Fresh Mozzarella, Burrata, Mascarpone and Vegetarian Parmesan.
The longer answer
BelGioioso's cheese information page (checked October 2026) does not mention halal, and we found no halal certification claim from the company.
The page does separate its cheeses by rennet. Under "Vegetarian Cheeses" it says they are "made with non-animal enzymes/rennet" and lists: Aged Fontina (Italico), Burrata, Crescenza-Stracchino, Fresh Asiago, Fontina, Fresh Mozzarella, Fresh Mozzarella Braids, Fresh Mozzarella Curd, Smoked Fresh Mozzarella, Impastata, Mascarpone and its flavored versions, Ricotta con Latte, Ricotta Salata and Vegetarian Parmesan. It adds: "We exclusively use a non-animal rennet for our vegetarian cheeses."
Cheeses that are not on that list are not described as vegetarian, and the page does not state the rennet source for them. A second BelGioioso page says only that "some of our cheeses are made using non-animal rennet." A shorter list of its cheeses is certified kosher by the Orthodox Union.
What to check before you order
Check the cheese against BelGioioso's vegetarian list, or look for the word vegetarian on the pack. The regular Parmesan and the Vegetarian Parmesan are different products.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
