Is H-E-B halal?

Depends on the location

It depends on the store. H-E-B's own meat carries no halal claim, but select Texas stores have stocked Crescent Foods halal chicken, beef and lamb since 2022.

The longer answer

A January 2022 trade report in Meat+Poultry said "H-E-B will carry the Crescent Foods brand of halal compliant meat and poultry products in select Houston stores", covering fresh hand-cut halal chicken, beef and lamb plus breaded frozen items, and that Crescent Foods expected the program to expand in Texas. The article does not name a certifier.

When we searched heb.com for "halal" in October 2026, the site was set to a store in Victoria, Texas. The only product with halal in the name there was Afia Frozen Halal Kibbeh. A search for "halal chicken" returned "No exact match", and no Crescent Foods meat appeared for that store. So availability clearly differs from store to store.

Zabihah.com, a community directory, lists some H-E-B stores as "Partially halal" based on staff verbal assurance. We found no H-E-B statement about halal, and H-E-B brand meat makes no halal claim.

What to check before you order

Set your own store on heb.com and search for halal, or look in the packaged meat case for Crescent Foods or another brand with a halal mark on the pack. H-E-B's own brand meat is not labeled halal.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
