Jennie-O sells a line of halal turkey products to foodservice buyers, but its retail website makes no halal claim for the turkey sold in grocery stores.

Is Jennie-O halal? (checked October 2026)

The longer answer

Jennie-O's parent company, Hormel, has a Halal page on its Hormel Foodservice site (checked October 2026) that promotes "Halal-certified proteins" for colleges and healthcare kitchens. The list on that page includes several Jennie-O items, among them Jennie-O Premium NAE Oil Browned Halal Turkey Breast, Jennie-O Halal Turkey Breast Roast, Jennie-O Fully Cooked Turkey Taco Meat, Halal, and Jennie-O Halal Turkey Strip. The product page for the oil browned turkey breast lists "HALAL" under its claims. A Hormel catalog page also lists a Jennie-O Turkey Store "HALAL YOUNG TURKEY".

None of the Hormel pages we read names the certifying body, so we cannot say who certifies these products. They are sold through foodservice distributors, not as regular grocery items.

On the consumer side, Jennie-O's own FAQ page does not mention halal, and a search for "halal" on jennieo.com returned 0 results. We found no halal claim for the standard retail ground turkey, turkey bacon or whole turkeys.

What to check before you order

A Jennie-O product is only from the halal line if the word Halal is in the product name and on the case or package. For anything served in a cafeteria, ask to see the label and the certificate, since Hormel's pages do not name the certifier.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
