Is Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix halal?

No

No. The original Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix lists lard as an ingredient. Jiffy also sells a Vegetarian Corn Muffin Mix made with vegetable shortening, with no halal claim.

The longer answer

The ingredient list on Jiffy's own product page for the original Corn Muffin Mix (checked October 2026) reads: wheat flour, degermed yellow corn meal, sugar, "LARD (HYDROGENATED LARD, BHT AND CITRIC ACID PRESERVATIVES)", then leavening, salt and vitamins. Lard is pork fat. Jiffy's Pie Crust Mix lists the same lard.

Jiffy sells a separate Vegetarian Corn Muffin Mix. Its FAQ says: "The only difference between our original 1950 recipe "JIFFY" Corn Muffin Mix and our new "JIFFY" Vegetarian Corn Muffin Mix is the shortening. The new vegetarian version is made using vegetable shortening." The product page lists vegetable shortening (palm oil, soybean oil) and no lard. The Honey Corn Muffin Mix page also lists vegetable shortening and is marked "Vegetarian as packaged."

We found no halal statement or halal certification from Jiffy (Chelsea Milling Company) for any mix, including the vegetarian ones.

What to check before you order

The regular blue box contains lard. Look for the box that says Vegetarian on the front, and read the ingredient list on any Jiffy mix for the word lard before buying.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
