Is Knox Gelatine halal?
Knox's website, which appears to be its Canadian one, says its unflavoured gelatine comes from a pork source. We found no separate US statement and no halal certification.
The longer answer
The FAQ on knoxgelatine.com (checked October 2026) asks "What is the source of Knox Unflavoured Gelatine?" and answers: "Our Knox Unflavoured Gelatine currently comes from a pork source and has been a pork source for many years." It also says powdered Knox gelatine is animal-derived and cannot be used for vegan or vegetarian recipes.
That website is run under the E.D. Smith name and is published in English and French, which points to the Canadian side of the brand. We could not find a separate statement written specifically for Knox sold in the United States, and we found nothing from the brand saying US Knox uses a different source.
We found no halal certification for Knox.
What to check before you order
Treat Knox as pork gelatin unless the box in your hand states otherwise. For halal cooking, look for gelatin that names a halal certifier on the pack, or use agar or pectin.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
