Is Lea & Perrins halal?

No halal claim

Lea & Perrins makes no halal claim. Its US Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies (fish) and lists no meat or added alcohol, with natural flavorings unspecified.

The longer answer

The US product page for Lea & Perrins The Original Worcestershire Sauce (Kraft Heinz, checked October 2026) lists: "DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR, MOLASSES, SUGAR, WATER, SALT, ONIONS, ANCHOVIES, GARLIC, CLOVES, TAMARIND EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVORINGS, CHILI PEPPER EXTRACT." The allergen line reads "CONTAINS: ANCHOVY."

Anchovies are fish, so the sauce is not vegetarian. No pork, beef or added alcohol appears in the list. The make-up of the natural flavorings is not given. The page also describes the sauce as "Great for those keeping Kosher".

We found no halal statement or halal certification from Lea & Perrins or Kraft Heinz for the US sauce. Bottles sold in other countries are made to different recipes and are not covered here.

What to check before you order

The fish content is the main point: check the label if you follow a view that restricts certain seafood. Natural flavorings are not broken down.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
