Is McCormick Vanilla Extract halal?
McCormick makes no halal claim for its vanilla. Pure Vanilla Extract lists alcohol as an ingredient, and its Clear Vanilla Flavor lists 13% alcohol.
The longer answer
McCormick's product page for Pure Vanilla Extract (checked October 2026) gives the ingredients as: "Vanilla Bean Extractives in Water, and Alcohol." The page does not give a percentage.
The imitation products also contain alcohol. Clear Vanilla Flavor lists "Water, Alcohol (13%), Vanillin, and Other Artificial Flavorings, and Citric Acid." Premium Vanilla Flavor lists water, alcohol, natural flavorings, vanillin, corn syrup and caramel color.
McCormick's FAQ page does not mention halal, and we found no halal certification for these products. Scholars differ on vanilla extract made with alcohol, so we report the ingredient and leave the ruling to the reader.
What to check before you order
All three McCormick vanilla products we checked list alcohol. If you avoid it, look for vanilla powder, whole vanilla beans or a vanilla flavor labeled alcohol free, and read that label too.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
