Grocery and meat
Is Meijer halal?
Meijer carries Crescent Foods halal chicken under a 2022 partnership; its own-brand meat pages do not state a halal certification.
The longer answer
In May 2022 Crescent Foods announced that its halal hand-cut chicken (boneless skinless breasts, thin-sliced breasts, tenders, boneless thighs and drumsticks) was available in more than 258 Meijer stores across Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin. Meijer.com also has a collection page titled "Halal Meat" (checked October 2026) that lists True Goodness organic chicken, Pre brand grass-fed beef and Frederik's by Meijer lamb and veal. The individual product pages we opened for those items did not use the word halal or name a certifier. We found no Meijer statement explaining what the collection's halal label is based on.
What to check before you order
Rely on the certifier's mark printed on the package rather than the website collection name. If a Meijer-brand item is presented as halal, ask the meat counter which body certified it.
How we decide
We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
