Is Pillsbury halal?

No halal claim

Pillsbury makes no halal claim. Its refrigerated and regular frozen pie crusts list lard, and Toaster Scrambles contain pork. Original crescent rolls list vegetable shortening.

The longer answer

Pillsbury's website (checked October 2026) lists ingredients for each product, and they differ a lot by item. The refrigerated Pie Crust lists "Lard and Hydrogenated Lard with BHA and BHT Added to Protect Flavor", and the regular frozen pie crust also lists lard. Pillsbury sells a separate frozen deep dish crust labeled "All-Vegetable Shortening" that lists soybean oil instead. Bacon and Sausage Toaster Scrambles are described as made with "pork shoulder bacon" and sausage.

Original Crescent rolls list vegetable shortening (soybean oil, hydrogenated palm oil, fractionated palm oil), mono and diglycerides, and a dough conditioner of L-cysteine hydrochloride and enzymes. The page does not state the source of the L-cysteine, enzymes or mono and diglycerides. We saw no lard or gelatin on the crescent, Strawberry Toaster Strudel or Grands S'mores Rolls pages we read.

Pillsbury's FAQ page does not mention halal, and we found no halal certification for its US products.

What to check before you order

Read the ingredient list on every Pillsbury item: lard appears in most pie crusts and pork in the breakfast pastries. L-cysteine, enzymes and mono and diglycerides are listed without a stated source.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
