Is Sargento halal?

No halal claim

Sargento makes no halal claim; it says most of its natural cheeses use non-animal rennet and none contain pork enzymes.

The longer answer

Sargento's FAQ (checked October 2026) says: "most Sargento natural cheeses are made with non-animal rennet and none contain pork enzymes." It says animal rennet is used in traditional Italian styles such as Parmesan, Romano, Provolone, Asiago and Fontina, and may be found in Blue and Feta, including blends that contain those cheeses. It states that all other Sargento cheeses contain non-animal enzymes. The FAQ says its retail products are not kosher and does not mention halal; we found no halal certifier.

What to check before you order

Check the cheese type: Italian-style cheeses and blends containing them may use animal rennet per Sargento. There is no halal mark on the pack.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
