Is Spam halal?

No

No. Spam Classic is made of pork with ham. A turkey variety exists with no pork listed, but it carries no halal claim or certification.

The longer answer

The Spam website (checked October 2026) lists the ingredients of Spam Classic as "Pork with Ham, Salt, Water, Modified Potato Starch, Sugar, Sodium Nitrite". Its FAQ describes the process the same way: "First, the pork and ham are pre-ground." The site lists many other varieties, such as Less Sodium, Lite, Hot and Spicy, Teriyaki and one with bacon. We did not read each ingredient list.

One variety is different. Spam Oven Roasted Turkey lists "White Turkey, Turkey Broth, Salt, Modified Potato Starch, Sugar, Dextrose, Sodium Nitrite". No pork is listed, but the page makes no halal claim and says nothing about how the turkey is slaughtered.

The Spam FAQ does not mention halal, and we found no certifier named for any US Spam product.

What to check before you order

Regular Spam is pork. If you pick up the turkey can, note that it has no halal mark, so it is not a certified halal product.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
