Is Tillamook halal?

Some items or locations

Many Tillamook cheeses are halal-certified by IFANCA; the company says one aged cheddar made with animal rennet is an exception.

The longer answer

An IFANCA halal product certificate issued to Tillamook County Creamery Association, dated September 25, 2025 and valid until October 31, 2026, runs to 19 pages of named cheeses; the pages we read include Colby, Colby Jack, Cheddar Jack shreds, Extra Sharp White Cheddar and Farmstyle shredded blends. We read the copy hosted by a foodservice retailer. International Business Times reported on September 18, 2026 that Tillamook says it has used fermentation-produced rennet since 2016, that most of its cheeses are halal-certified, and that its Maker's Reserve 10-Year Extra Sharp Cheddar is an exception because it is made with animal rennet. Tillamook's own FAQ page did not show a halal answer in the content we could load. The certificate covers cheese; we did not find one for Tillamook ice cream, yogurt or other products.

What to check before you order

Look for the IFANCA crescent M mark on the cheese pack, since certification is by product. The certificate we read expires on October 31, 2026.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
