Grocery and meat

Is Whole Foods Market halal?

Depends on the location

Whole Foods has no chain-wide halal claim; halal availability comes from third-party brands such as Saffron Road in some stores.

The longer answer

Whole Foods Market's published Meat Standards page (checked October 2026) does not mention halal at all, so there is no chain-wide halal policy. Saffron Road, which is IFANCA-certified, states on its own site that it debuted at Whole Foods Market in July 2010 and is sold there. Any halal fresh meat is a store-level or regional offering, not a Whole Foods standard.

What to check before you order

Look for IFANCA or another certifier mark on the brand's package (e.g., Saffron Road). Whole Foods' own standards do not cover halal, so ask the butcher about any unbranded fresh meat.

How we decide

We only report what the company or its certifier has said publicly, and we link to it below. We do not test food, and we do not take a brand’s word from a single franchise. If a location tells you something different from this page, trust the location and tell us.
